Bakelite Jewellery

Bakelite was invented by Leo Baekeland in 1907. it was originally used for industrial purposes until jewellery designers found that its light weight made Bakelite perfect for manufacturing. Bakelite was based on a chemical compound of phenol and formaldehyde and can no longer be produced. Bakelite jewellery was created in the 1930's and 1940's and is now one of the most collectible and sought-after materials today.
