Bakelite Jewellery

Bakelite was invented by Leo Baekeland in 1907. it was originally used for industrial purposes until jewellery designers found that its light weight made Bakelite perfect for manufacturing.

Bakelite was based on a chemical compound of phenol and formaldehyde and can no longer be produced. Bakelite jewellery was created in the 1930's and 1940's and is now one of the most collectible and sought after materials today.

We stock new and upcoming French artists Laroge. His designs are individually and superbly crafted hand-made pieces using vintage Bakelite. Each piece is signed and is highly collectible.

Ron and Ester Schultz are another other bakelite crafters that savage old pieces of Bakelite from unrecoverable jukeboxes, broken radios, poker chip holders and Mah Jong trays of the 1930's and 1940's. These vintage pieces are a one-offs, and are rare pieces.
