The term ‘Galalith’ was derived from the Greek words ‘gala’ (milk) and ‘lithos’ (stone).  This collectible material was invented in 1889 by Adolph Spitteler and Wilhelm Krishe from solidifying milk protein.  During the 1920's and 1930's galalith was commonly used to create jewellery.
